**Joe and Sharon Borton Named Grand Marshals for 2024 Winter Lights Parade in Meridian**
The City of Meridian has announced that Judge Joe and Sharon Borton will serve as the grand marshals for the 2024 Winter Lights Parade. The parade will take place on Friday, December 6, at 7:00 pm in downtown Meridian.
Joe Borton is a trial attorney with over 27 years of litigation experience and was the managing partner at Borton-Lakey Law & Policy in downtown Meridian. He served on the Meridian City Council for 14 years, including a term as president. In addition to his legal career, Joe has been involved in the community as president of the West Ada Education Foundation and the Meridian Chamber of Commerce. He also chaired Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho and mentored youth for 11 years. Recently, Idaho Governor Brad Little appointed him as a District Judge for the Fourth Judicial District, effective in 2024.
Sharon Borton has dedicated her 29-year teaching career to the West Ada School District, where she has received Teacher of the Year accolades and served as a school administrator. A graduate of the University of Idaho, Sharon has been a resident of Meridian for over 25 years. She actively volunteers in the community, having participated in the March for Parks and served multiple terms on the Meridian Parks and Recreation Commission. Notably, she volunteered for the first Winterland Parade in extremely cold weather, braving temperatures of 11 degrees below zero. Also a breast cancer survivor, Sharon advocates for women's health and urges regular mammogram screenings.
Joe and Sharon Borton are the proud parents of two grown sons and one daughter-in-law.
