**Traffic Enforcement Operation Held in Oklahoma City**
The Oklahoma City Police Department conducted a special traffic enforcement operation from December 15th to December 21st to address concerns about high crash rates. The operation targeted NW 39th Street, between N. Portland Avenue and N. Meridian Avenue, as well as Route 66, between I-44 and Gregory Road. According to department reports, this section of the city has seen 150 traffic crashes since the beginning of the year.
The enforcement efforts, led by the department's Traffic Safety Unit (TSU), aimed to reduce accidents and improve road safety. Officers made a total of 354 contacts with drivers during the operation. The breakdown of violations includes:
- 232 citations for speeding
- 64 citations for illegal tag display
- 45 citations for disregarding signal lights
- 19 citations for failing to stop at a stop sign
- 18 citations for lack of insurance
- 11 citations for driving without a valid license
- 8 citations for other violations
- 2 citations for not wearing a seat belt
The Oklahoma City Police Department emphasized their commitment to reducing crashes and saving lives through proactive enforcement.
